Finding unspoilt and possibly deserted bays in high season is not that simple unless you get an insider's tip. Here are a couple of places I'm sharing with you alone...
Also referred to as il-Ħofra l-Kbira (the large hole), this circular bay with high rock surrounding it could have been a sinkhole of sorts or a large cave whose roof collapsed. More easily reachable by boat (get one of the water taxis from Vittoriosa to take you there) or through a stairwell from the Nature Park of the same name, close to Marsaxlokk. You'll need to spot the stairs leading to the rocky bathing area. Always prepare packed lunch and cooler for drinks as (thankfully) there are no facilities by the sea.
The name Fomm ir-Riħ means Mouth of the Wind but this is one. This small pebbly beach is accessed via a 15 minute walk down a steep path. Close to Mġarr, this is best reached with a car via Triq is-Sajf ta' San Martin.
How to get there by car and by bus
Wine, food and music under a balmy, starlit summer sky and a great opportunity to mingle with the local crowd. Set in the exquisitely pleasant public garden with a view over the harbour. Also easy to get to with the ferry in 15 minutes Birgu.

Following on the heels of the July Festival held by Farsons, Pinta concentrates on craft beers from around the world and will be held for the first time this year at the end of August. As with the other festival, expect music and games. Local bands will be leading the main stage at Tritoni Square with further entertainment and arcade areas throughout the festival.

Travelling light means cheaper flights, faster exit from Arrivals, no back breaking effort, no risk of lost luggage and a reduced carbon footprint. Summer is the time to travel light because you don't need bulky warm clothing.
Here are a few handy tips on keeping it small:
1. Know the rules for size and weight for the airline you're travelling with and the ticket you've bought.
2. Wear more, pack less.
3. Take clothes you love, the ones you're more likely to wear.
4. Take things you can easily wash in the bathroom sink. Summer begets sweat.
5. Look for clothes that pack smallest. Sounds stupid but some clothes take more space.
6. Rolled up clothes take up less space.
7. Taking a travel pillow? Fill it with soft clothes. Ideal - it travels for free!
